Rotterdam P2 shaken up as three top-four men's seeds fall in quarter-finals

By WhatThePadel.com

The men's draw at the 2026 CUPRA Rotterdam Premier Padel P2 has been blown open after three of the top four seeded teams lost in the quarter-finals.

Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto, and Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo all advanced with victories over higher-seeded opponents.

Only the No. 1 team of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia survived from the tournament's top four seeds.

Stupaczuk and Sanz beat Galan and Chingotto

The biggest result came from No. 5 seeds Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, who defeated Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto 6-4, 6-4.

The match lasted one hour and 17 minutes and sent Stupaczuk and Sanz into their first Premier Padel semi-final together since forming their partnership.

The result also gave Sanz his first Tour victory over Galan.

Their next opponents are Yanguas and Nieto, turning the semi-final into a direct battle between two pairs trying to strengthen their position near the top of the men's rankings.

Yanguas and Nieto eliminate Lebron and Augsburger

Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto took out No. 3 seeds Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger.

Yanguas and Nieto saved two set points in the opening set before dominating the tiebreak 7-0. They then secured an early break in the second set and completed the win.

The result puts them back into a Premier Padel semi-final after reaching the Madrid P1 final earlier in the season.

It also has ranking consequences, with Yanguas-Nieto and Stupaczuk-Sanz both competing for the No. 4 seeded position ahead of Milan P1.

Gonzalez and Campagnolo survive a marathon

Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo produced the longest and most dramatic of the three upsets.

Facing No. 4 seeds Martin Di Nenno and Paquito Navarro, they lost the first set 2-6 before taking the second-set tiebreak 7-1.

The deciding set became a test of nerve. Gonzalez and Campagnolo trailed 4-5 and saved two match points before winning three consecutive games to close the match 7-5.

The quarter-final lasted two hours and 49 minutes.

The victory also guarantees the pair at least 180 points in the FIP Race as they chase qualification for the season-ending Tour Finals.

The women's top four all advanced

While the men's bracket produced major surprises, the women's draw followed the seedings.

The four highest-ranked women's teams all advanced to the semi-finals.

The matchups are:

  • Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo vs Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez
  • Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea vs Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero

Virginia Riera and Julieta Bidahorria saw their strong Rotterdam run end against Sanchez and Ustero, but their quarter-final finish was still their best Premier Padel result of the season.

Rotterdam semi-finals

The men's semi-finals are:

  • Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia vs Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo
  • Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz vs Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto

Coello and Tapia remain the highest-seeded pair left in the men's tournament, but the other side of the draw guarantees a finalist from outside the top four seeds.

That makes Rotterdam one of the more disruptive men's draws of the recent Premier Padel calendar - and adds extra importance to the ranking battle heading into the next stops in Germany and Italy.
